Wheel/rail rolling noise is generally the predominant noise component radiated by railway systems. Considerable R and D work on rolling noise control has been initiated by the major railway companies during the last few decades which has led to the development of a signi"cant number of technical solutions. In this paper, the main mitigation measures, both operational and still under development, are reviewed and assessed.
