✦ Synopsis
The intensity decrement in fluorescence and triplet-triplet absorption spectra of 9, IO-dichloroanthracene (DCA) by amine in acetonitrile is interpreted in terms of the quenching of the lowest excited singlet state ('DCA(S,)) of DCA by amine, and the DCA radical anion produced via the singlet exciplex of 'DCA(S, ) with amine is ascribed to the intermediate for the dechlorination of DCA.
