HE DISCUSSION OF THE WORKSHOP WAS T opened by Dr. Edwards who outlined the various types of training awards and support that were currently available. These have not been widely used but are available for individuals whose training is specifically research oriented. Grant support is available to those in training in the basic sciences, the clinical sciences, and in the combination of basic and clinical sciences. T h e idea was presented that in the case of the cancer center it would be possible to organize an interdepartmental or interdisciplinary type of training program for individuals particularly concerned with cancer problems that would encompass a broader background of information regarding neoplasms than could be supplied within a single department. Such interdepartmental programs would include both basic science and clinical science departments.
In addition to sponsoring postgraduate education for the physician, it was also pointed out that there would be a role for improving the number and quality of paramedical personnel who assist in various phases of the cancer program, both at the research and clinical service level. It was also proposed that facilities and positions should be available for giving continuing educational courses to a limited number of physicians in practice who could return to cancer centers and obtain in-
