✦ Synopsis
Spectrophotometric and electrochemical behaviour of V(III) ions was investigated in H,O + DMPU and H,O + HMPA mixed solvents. While optical studies have revealed the resolvation of V(III) already in Hz0 rich solutions, it has been found that the reduction of V(II1) to V(H) at the mercury electrode yields the double polarographic wave ih these mixtures. The double wave behaviour has been ascribed to the reduction of V(III) aqua-ions and mixed solvates of V(III) proceeding at different rates.
