## Abstract A novel Er^3+^/Yb^3+^ co‐doped double‐clad fiber‐ring laser, which utilizes amplified spontaneous emission as a secondary pump source in order to operate in L‐band, is demonstrated. Six laser diodes are used to cladding‐pump Er^3+^/Yb^3+^ co‐doped double‐clad fiber. When the pumping pow
