✦ Synopsis
A numerical scheme applied to the laminar boundary layer equations for the flow of a dissociating-recombining pure substance over a flat plate is presented. The four non-linear, coupled partial differential equations of the boundary layer are solved in a unique fashion. The derivatives in the flow direction are replaced by second-order difference relations and the resulting ordinary differential equations are solved with a fourth-order Hermitian finite difference scheme. The stability and convergence ofthe routine are discussed and a FORTRAN listing of the program is included. Running times and storage space are reduced by up to an order of magnitude over conventional iterative procedures.
Concentration and temperature profiles as well as the local heat flux are presented for various parameter changes including: wall catalytic efficiency, degree of equilibrium, Prandtl and Lewis number effectsand the role played by thermal diffusion. Considerable deviation results, especially in the concentration profile, when compared to normal difference methods.
Included are examples of non-equilibrium flow along a plate with a discontinuously changing catalytic efficiency. B. J. MCCAFFREY
