Abstract

Treatment of 2‐(2‐oxopropylthio)benzoxazoles 1a–d with an excess of primary amines in acetic acid or in perchloric acid affords 3‐substituted 2‐(2‐hydroxyphenylimino)‐4‐methylthiazoles 4a–q. Interaction of thiazoles 4a,i with diazomethane leads to the corresponding O‐methyl derivatives. The structure of compounds 4a–q is confirmed by an X‐ray analysis of compound 4d.
