## Abstract The label from (__S__)β[1β^13^C]norcoclaurine and (__S__)β[1β^13^C]coβclaurine was highly and nonrandomly incorporated into (__S__)βreticuline in benzyltetrahydroisoquinolineβproducing plant cell cultures of __Berberis stolonifera, Eschscholtzia californica__ and __Peumus boldus__. From

β¦ Synopsis
Precursor feeding experiments to Annona reticulata leaves demonstrated that coclaurine and reticuline are both derived from the common intermediate norcoclaurine; furthermore (S)-coclaurine was found to be the specific precursor to the major classes of isoquinoline alkaloids: protoberberines, benzophenanthridines and morphinandienones.
