✦ Synopsis

GEXERAL

The fourth Symposium on this subject in Heidelberg during September 1973 was another triumph for Professor and Mrs. Delyannis who organised it on behalf of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering. Their contribution to this and previous Symposia, was marked by the presentation to Professor Delyannis of the Conservation Service Award of the U.S. Department of the Interior in recognition of his outstanding service and sustained contributions to the improvement of man's encironment.

Virtually all the papers presented were printed and available in advance**. Despite an almost universal tendency for authors to dwell lovingly and at length on their oral presentations.

there was ample opportunity during formal and social occasions for frank and valuable discussions. A small exhibition displayed new single stage sea water permeators having 9&S?;', salt rejection, and 30% recovery at 800 psi (5.5 MN/m') pressure from the U.S.; new "spaghetti" reverse osmosis modules, enhanced surface heat transfer tubing and new threshold scale control additives from the U.K.. and advanced distillation technology from France.
