โœฆ Synopsis

Clear; concise, and practical are terms that best describe this handbook designed to assist counseling students through their experience of internship. Intended by the authors to be used as a step-by-step guide, the book has 11 chapters and 8 appendixes. The first 3 chapters provide the intern with a road map, a solid foundation, and the structure necessary to effectively develop clinical skills and competencies. In these chapters, issues related to beginning an internship, developing competencies, demonstrating skills, and working with the site supervisor are addressed. Chapter three details the responsibilities of an ideal internship site supervisor, and examines this special relationship from the point of initial contact with the intern through the end of internship. The next 3 chapters--"Deciding How to Help: Choosing Treatment Modalities," "The Clinical Interview," and 'Psychological Testing Overview"-deal with the essence of the counselor's work.
