โฆ Synopsis
This paper is a review of recent experimental results and computational methods needed for the fluid engineering aspects of hefium cooling systems for power applications. The discussion is illustrated by three different applications: large magnets; power transmission lines and ac generators. An attempt is made to put recent research into perspective, considering the requirements of each application, and problems in need of further research are pointed out.

The article presents a simple technique for the purpose of heat and mass transfer analysis in an ACS. The LiBr/water ACS was selected as an example. Based on optimum operation conditions (i.e., the maximum cooling temperature delivered by the ACS), simple but effective expressions were derived in te
A general method for optimizing ideal Claude cycles with multiple expansion engines is presented for two types of engine arrangements. In one case, the inlet temperature of one engine is equal to the outlet temperature of another engine. In the second case, inlet and outlet temperatures of adjacent
The paper presents a physical model, involving no adjustable parameters of transient heat transfer for normal zone propagation in a composite helium-cooled superconductor. ## Evaluations are given showing that the main contribution to transient heat flux is made by transverse heat conduction in the
An analytical method for determining the heat transfer coefficients of food products being cooled in water and in air flows is presented. Food products are idealized as geometrical solid objects of regular shapes. New correlations between heat transfer coefficients and cooling coefficients are devel
