โฆ Synopsis
~oughout my academic career I have followed Elizabeth Hol-~loway's prolific work in supervision. I have admired her skills as a researcher and have been amazed at her ability to manage the voluminous amounts of data generated by her atomistic. microanalytic studies (her words) of supervision interactions. Holloway is a model of a systematic researcher. one who sets forth a deliberate agenda of sequential research questions and then attacks them via careful. thorough research designs. I had come to think of her as a methodical. detail-oriented scientist.
Clinical Supervision: A Systems Approach. Holloway's flrst book on the subject. reveals other-or new-aspects of Holloway the professional. Here. Holloway wants to give as much weight to "practice knowledge" as empirical knowledge. seemingly in an attempt to describe some of the subtle. artistic elements of supervision that have eluded Holloway the researcher. In this book. Holloway tries to integrate what she knows about supervision from her 19 years of observations as a researcher. supervisor. and supervision trainer. and. even more impressive. what she has learned from "reflective dialogues" with colleagues about their work as supervisors. Subjective information-each individual's perceptions and meanings regarding supervision-is treated as respectfully as empirical information.
