## Abstract Four classes of benzylidene acetal type bridged nucleic acids (BAโ€BNAs) were designed with 2โ€ฒ,4โ€ฒโ€bridged structures that cleaved upon exposure to appropriate external stimuli. Cleavage of 6โ€nitroveratrylidene and 2โ€nitrobenzylidene acetal type BNA bridges occurred upon photoirradiation
