โฆ Synopsis
The monoanion of bromothymol blue in organic solvents shows reversible spectral changes upon flash photolysis which is interpreted by a photoinduced rotational isomerization. Dependent on the concentration and strength of the base forming the counterion the complex thermal relaxation proceeds via different pathways which involve two consecutive proton transfer processes and an intermediate sultone ring closure.
