โœฆ Synopsis

Reverberation time data obtained by the BRE in jhrnished rooms in dwellings over the last twenty years are reported. It is shown that reverberation times have decreased orcr the period and are now well below the value of O" 5 s jound in the 1950s, particularly at high Jrequencies. It is shown that the reduction in reverberation times could have resulted from changes in the room Jurnishings. An attempt to predict the reverberation times of aji~rnished room Jkom information about the absorption of the bare room and typicaljhrnishings was not successjul because of a lack of injbrmation about the absorption characteristics of certain items of jhrniture.

It is shown that energy #ow between weakly coupled reverberant systems, for example reverberation rooms coupled by a small window, can be Anderson localized. The e!ect is signi"cant when the energy #ow rate (in units of inverse time) is comparable to or less than modal spacings. It is found that the

The traditional method of measuring the sound power radiated by a source in a reverberation room is examined theoretically and experimentally with particular regard to low frequencies. This method has for many years been suspected of underestimation at low frequencies. However, this suspicion is not

Differences which occur in the reverberation time measurement by a noise source and by a start gun as impulse source are analyzed in some dwelling rooms smaller than 100 m 2. The statistics of results are also shown.

The room constant is a quantity relating to the sound absorption in an enclosure. It is necessm'v to room acoustics engineering calculations based on the perJectly diffuse sound field theory, both in noise control work and sound system design. Normally, in the validation o/the above-mentioned theol'
