✦ Synopsis

Bringing the posterior pharyngeal wall to the velum by means of a retropharyngeal implant is the way of overcoming velopharyngeal incompetence (VPI) that which disrupts the velopharyngeal mechanism the least. Unfortunately, most of the various methods for accomplishing this have been beset with complications. The use of autogenous rib cartilage is a reliable, simple operation that should be considered in the selection of treatment for VPI.
