The continuing dialogue between L e ~i n e ' ~) and Watson, (11) as well as other writers, on the potential clinical utility of the Halstead Battery in the differential diagnosis of schizophrenia us. organicity is helping to clarify some of the variables that even at this early stage of our knowledge appear to be relevant to such an important binary clinical decision. At present, and without denying the possible role of other potential variables reviewed at length by Matarazzo(6* p p . 377-427)1 it appears that differences in chronicity of the illness, as well as other selection factors, in the samples of such patients studied by these two as well as other investigators may be a critical variable in research on this problem.
