✦ Synopsis


Addition of 2-propanol, acetonitrile, or dichloromethane to a supercritical carbon dioxide mobile phase in capillary supercritical fluid chromatography decreased the retention of selected test solutes at constant temperature and pressure. The data obtained indicate that selective interactions between the solute and the mobile phase modifier contribute to the retention mechanism. High-molecular-weight polycyclic aromatic compounds were chromatographed with 8.9 mol% 2-propanol in carbon dioxide.
