HERA is the natural extension of an impressive series of fixed-target lepton-nucleon scattering experiments. The increase of a factor ten in center-of-mass energy over that available previously has allowed the discovery of several important results, including the large number of slow partons in the

โฆ Synopsis
Results on the proton structure function measurements at the HERA e-p colliding facility are presented. The kinematic domain, where FP(x,Q 2) has been measured at HERA, extends from Q2 >_ 0.11 GeV 2 to Q2 < 5000 GeV 2 and covers a region in x from 6 ร 10 -6 to 0.32. In this proceedings, a particular emphasis is given to measurements in the transition region between the photoproduction and the deep inelastic scattering (DIS) domain. Besides the F2 measurements at low and high Q2, an overview is given on some related measurements such as the charm contribution to F2, the extraction of the longitudinal structure function FL and the extraction of the gluon density, which are compared to, or obtained from, a global QCD-fit of the data.

A precise proton structure function F2 at low x is measured. The data is interpreted in the framework of QCD with an extraction of gluon density xg. The charm contribution to F2 is determined in an extended kinematic range. Neutral and charged current crosssections at high Q2 axe also measured and c
