Abstract

What should an organization's leaders do when they sense that the competition is gaining on them? The answer for one strategic business unit within a global financial services company was “Restructure—and make it fast.” Within three months, the organization set up a project team that analyzed its current situation, identified and evaluated alternative designs, and designed and implemented a new structure. The results were significant improvements in revenues and customer satisfaction and a reduction in overall operating costs and key process‐cycle times. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
