In general, salmonid fishes undergo morphological, physiological, and behavioural changes, known as smoltification, before migrating out to the sea. Among these changes is an increased Na + -K + -ATPase activity in the gills that improves the hypoosmoregulatory ability. Earlier studies have shown th
