✦ Synopsis

I would like to thank Dr. Bellelli, Raglio and Trabucchi for their attention on the issue. Their article addressed that the results of our previous study entitled "Effectiveness of group music intervention against agitated behavior in elderly persons with dementia" (Lin et al., 2011) confirm their recent findings (Raglio et al., 2008; Raglio et al., 2010). It is extremely important to compare data from different countries with similar study design and patient population. Bellelli et al. hypothesize three to four patients per group and calculate a cost of €25 for each session of music intervention, with a total cost of €300 for 12 sessions per 12 groups. Actually, in our study, 10-14 patients with dementia were recruited per group. On the basis of their calculation, we obtain a total cost of €1200 per 12 sessions per four groups, with a corresponding cost of about €24 for each patient. According to Bellelli et al., patients with dementia benefit from participating in music interventions. Music intervention is a low-cost and valuable intervention in dealing with agitated behavior of patients with dementia. We therefore feel that the views expressed by Bellelli et al. are extremely crucial to clinical health professionals in long-term care nursing facilities.
