✦ Synopsis

We appreciate the thoughtful comments on our recent paper (Burd and Hofer, 2008) on biomarkers for prenatal alcohol exposure during pregnancy by Pichini et al., this issue). The authors have observed high rates of underreporting of alcohol and other drug exposure by women participating in their studies. This problem is a concern for nearly everyone involved in the research on detection and quantification of prenatal alcohol exposure.
