Abstract
Some have written to this journal to take issue with my characterization of net energy as an irrelevant and misleading metric for fuel performance. We welcome open discussion of controversial issues related to biofuels in this journal and so have invited Dr. Franz Poldy (CSIRO Sustainable Ecosystems, Australia) to write a defense of net energy and critique of my earlier article. Since I am the Editor in Chief, I get to have the last word, and have briefly responded to Dr. Poldy's article. It is apparent that Dr. Poldy uses a different definition of net energy than does Dr. Pimentel. We invite the readers to consider the arguments and make up their own minds.
