✦ Synopsis

Eight distillery yeasts and one haploid strain of Saeeharomyees eerevisiae were screened for the presenee of respiratory defieient eells in their populations after culturing in either yeast extract-peptone-sucrose medium or in molasses medium. It was found that the distillery yeasts yield RD eells similar to the haploid with the number varying with the yeast strain and growth temperature.

In eel] biomass recycling, the number of RD eells also increases eonsiderably.
