โœฆ Synopsis

This study aimed to determine the prevalence of respirator?, morbidiv among asbestosexposed ironworkers and to determine the relationship between respiratory morbidity indices and length of e.tposure. A medical screening provided itformation on chest radiographic abnormalities, pulmonar?, function, rules. ,finger clubbing, and respirator?, symptoms for 547 asbestos-exposed ironworkers. Union pension records furnished data on length of exposure. The study group exhibited an increased prevcilence of small irregular opacities, pleural plciques, and pleural thickening on chest x-ray; reduced FEF2,-,5; rules; and respirutory .sytnptotns. After controlling for the effect of cigarette smoking and age, yecirs since joining the ironworkers union were significontljl associated with profision, pleural thickening, pleu- ral plaques, rules, percent predicted FVC, reduced FVC, reduced FEV,, reduced FEV,/FVC, and dyspnea grades I, 11, Ill, and IV. @ 19% Wilev-Lis~. hic.
