โฆ Synopsis
We present resonant magnetic X-ray scattering (RMXS) measurements in an applied magnetic field on a single crystal of Ca 3 Co 2 O 6 . We focus our attention on the transition from an incommensurate partially disordered antiferromagnetic state to a ferrimagnetic state: a lock-in and a divergence of the magnetic correlation length at the transition shed light on the nature of the ground state and on the c-axis vs. inplane exchange couplings in this system.

We investigate the magnetic X-ray scattering spectra around the K-edge of Cu in antiferromagnetic KCuF 3 using an ab initio band-structure calculation based on the density-functional theory. By taking account of orbital polarization through the spin-orbit interaction, we obtain resonant enhancement
