## Abstract A simple and efficient variation method is presented in this letter, which is employed to calculate the resonant frequencies of LS higher order modes in a dielectrically loaded grooved waveguide. Emphasis is placed on the calculation of the resonant frequencies of LSE~11~ and LSM~11~ mo
