✦ Synopsis
A cw selcctivc laser excitation and fluoresccncc observation technique has been used to study rhe collicional eiecrronic excitation transfer process 7Li;(A 1 Cc, u', J') + Li(z 2s) -7Li2(X 1 r _l, u",s' =S + 1) •t Li*(Z2P) +AE for some sclectcd (v' = 17.6 < f < 30) rovibrational levels of Lig(A). The process is found to be strongly resonant, with cross sections strongly depending on J', being maximum when AE = 0 and half-maxhnum when AE = 10 cm-l at T = 900 K. Measured thermally averaged dcpopuldtion cross sections of 7 Liz(A, u', J')for Li range from 150 f 50 A2 for the off-resonant, J' = 27, cast to 1100 f. 150 A2 for the resonant, I' = 21, case. The cxpcrimcntal results arc fully consistent with semi-classical calculations based on the first Born appro_timation with dipole-dipole interaction.
