✦ Synopsis
Resonance Raman spectra of benzene adsorbed on Cu2+-and Ru3+-montmoriknitcs have demonstrated the formation of pol~(p-phenyienc) cations in the interlayer of the clay mineral. The interlayer cation is reduced in a humid armosphcre to yield poly(p-phenylene).
Biphenyl orp-terphcnyl gives consistently the same product.
