The resonance Raman spectrum of a Ti(IV)-H202 complex in acidic (H2S04) aqueous solution is shown to consist of bands at 623,1236 and 1852 cm-'. Excitation with three different lines of an argon ion laser showed the higher two Raman bands to be overtones of the 623 cm-' fundamental, this arising fro

β¦ Synopsis
Transient Raman spectra of anisole cation (C6HJOCH$') and its para methyl derivative are reported. These radicals were prepared on the 100 ns time scale by electron transfer reactions in aqueous solution. The structural contents in these Raman spectra are much more extensive than in the recently studied REZP2CI spectra of phenetole cation (C6H,0GH5) + ' in molecular beams. On microsecond times, 4,4'dimethoxybenzene cation, (CsH,OCH&', was seen as a transient product of the reaction of anisole cation, but not ofpmethylanisole cation. The latter radical was observed to react in basic solutions with OH-at a rate constant of E5 x IO* M-l s-'.
