✦ Synopsis

Di †use reΓ‘ectance spectra of and of caesium oxide containing the ion exhibit a broad absorption KO 2 O 2 maximum near 300 nm extending into the visible range, due to the transition of this ion. Raman spectra 1p g ^1p u of these substances excited at 457.9 nm show the fundamental and Ðrst overtone with moderate intensity, and O 2 in the case of caesium oxide the second overtone is also weakly observed.

The first Raman and hyper-Raman spectra of chloro-and iodobenzene for excitation resonant with the L, electronic state are reported. Both the weakly perturbing chlorine and strongly perturbing iodine substituents induce the same type of Raman activity. The spectra are dominated by the yg, fundamenta
