✦ Synopsis

The dependence of the intensity of the I+ Raman bvd of S' at 531 cn~-~~on the frequency of theexciting radiation was measured in the region 4'765-5145A and a?6326 A. The NaCl lattice mode band at -356 cm-1 VGIS used as an internal intensity standard. The results could not be rationalized on the basis of current theories.

A theoretical analysis for the resonant hyper-Raman scattering (RHRS) of light in a CdS crystal is presented. The different scattering mechanisms are considered and the cross section of the RHRS by LO phonons are calculated as a function of incident frequency.

In this paper, the absorption spectrum of PbWO 4 :Cr 3+ crystals is measured at room temperature in the wavelength range from 340 to 520 nm. The d-d transitions of Cr 3+ ions in PbWO 4 crystals with tetragonal symmetry are calculated by the crystal-field theory. The theoretical results are in good a
