✦ Synopsis


Saturation of the photoionintion of Ca atoms by resonance ionisation is demonstrated.

The photoionisation cross scction of the excited 4s2( lS),, state is measured to be 3 X 1O-'8 cmz_ Saluration (100% ionintion) of a given sample is achieved at power levels of the order of 100 hfM'/cmZ.
