✦ Synopsis

Voice recognition technology (VRT) has become accurate and fast enough to be useful in a variety of writing scenarios. Yet the field of composition and rhetoric has paid scant attention to this new technology so far. Additionally, we know little about how this technology might affect writing processes or our perceptions of silent writing. This review article explores future use of VRT by examining past research into the technology of dictation and suggests future avenues for research, including the effects of planning and the technology's use in various phases of writing processes.
