The conference was attended by approximately 120 fracture scientists and engineers from 17 countries around the world. The aim of the conference was to evaluate recent developments and to assess current understandings of the failure mechanisms of materials.

Topics covered were both theoretical and experimental aspects of physics, chemistry, materials science and mechanics of fracture.
