โœฆ Synopsis

During 16-19 August 1988, the 10th International Ship and Offshore Structures Congress (ISSC) was held in Lyngby, Denmark.

As usual, invitations to the Congress were restricted to committee members and observers qualified by reason of professional responsibility or published work, and according to the ISSC statutes, the total number of attendants should not exceed 200. The actual number of active participants in Lyngby was 196 from 25 different countries.

At the 9th ISSC in 1985 it had been decided that the 10th ISSC should have eight Design Technical Committees which should cover the continuity in the major fields of strength and structure problems related to ships and offshore structures. These Design Committees should not differ much from the traditional ISSC Technical Committees. But in addition, eight Specialist Technical Committees should be formed. These Committees should be more task oriented with the ability to go in depth in special, more narrow fields which are found to be vital for ISSC.

The experience gained so far with this new committee structure was discussed during the Congress in Lyngby at a Plenary Session on Thursday, 18 August. At this meeting it was unanimously agreed that the new committee structure had been a success and should be continued also for future congresses, possibly with minor corrections concerning 248
