โœฆ Synopsis

An accessory coronary artery originating from the pulmonary trunk was discovered in a gross anatomy dissection specimen during the autumn quarter of 1959. This is apparently a rare anomaly as only a single case with some similarity can be found in the literature.

Although many cases in which a replacing left coronary artery arises from the pulmonary trunk have been reported (Bland et al., '33; Gasul and Loeffler, '49; Kittle et al., '55; and George and Knowlan, '59), only two instances of an accessory coronary artery have been recorded. Of these two, both reported by Brooks (1885), only one resembles the present case.

Surgical repair of a 29-year-old woman's left coronary artery with an anomalous origin from the pulmonary artery was performed by reimplantation of the left main artery into the aorta, together with coronary artery bypass grafting. Subsequent stenosis of the reimplanted left main artery was treated
