โฆ Synopsis
We appreciate the remarks of Dr. Topaz regarding our article ''Anomalous Origin of the Right Coronary Artery From the Left Anterior Descending Artery'' [1]. Dr. Topaz is correct that our article was not the first to describe anomalous origin of the right coronary artery (RCA), but we did not state this in our article. What we did claim, and believe that this statement holds even in view of previously reported cases as stated in Dr. Topaz's letter, is that this is the first description of the RCA originating from the mid left anterior descending (LAD). In this respect, Simkoff et al. [2] describe an RCA originating from the proximal LAD, while Click et al. [3] just mentioned one case, without any angiographic details, as part of an extended review of anomalous coronary arteries. As to the RCA being the most common anomalous vessel (62%), Dr. Topaz is correct, and we want to thank him for noting the correct citation, which was taken from his article [4], but unintentionally left out in our reference list. We do not have angiographic information on the course of major cardiac veins, and we think that this is an excellent point to be investigated in the future, when anomalous coronary arteries are diagnosed, by extend-ing the imaging time after intracoronary contrast injection.
