✦ Synopsis

We thank Dr. Bawle for her interest in our work. Our paper was prepared some time ago and we can reassure her that our work since then has provided increasing support for the identification of a ((temporary brittle bone disease," distinct from osteogenesis imperfecta (01).

01 types I and IV typically have normal bone appearances at the time of the first few fractures and can cause diagnostic difficulty radiologically; 01 type I11 seldom causes any problems with diagnosis. Metaphyseal fractures may occur in nonaccidental injury but they are also characteristic of known cases of 01 . Metaphyseal fractures and other abnormalities may be a nonspecific finding in a variety of metabolic and heritable problems in the first year of life.
