✦ Synopsis
We thank Dr. Balzano and Dr. Sheppard for indicating that the SAR units in Tables 234567, and on the last line of p. 170 of our article should be "(mW/kg)" rather than "(W/kg)." As they noted, this typographical error did not occur in the figures and obviously did not affect our interpretation of the results of our calculations or our conclusions.
We agree with Drs. Balzano and Sheppard that the use of the term "hot spot" is perhaps not technically or grammatically appropriate in the context of this paper. However, this concept has crept into common usage in the microwave bioeffects arena and it has been routinely associated with nonuniform microwave energy absorption. In anticipation of this, we referred to the "hot spot" phenomenon and then attempted to provide a quantitative argument to place the concept in a proper context with respect to cellular level interactions.
