T h e c o m m e n t by G. P. Glasby of our paper "On s o m e relationships between the oxide layers and cores of deep sea m a n g a n e s e nodules" (Mineraliurn Deposita II, 267-277, 1976) is not a traditional eomment, thus the reply cannot be traditional.

In fact, Glasby has used his e o m m e n t as an opportunity to attack m a n y of our ideas, published or unpublished on m a n g a n e s e nodules genesis and to start a controversy in spite of the fact that w e have taken great eare to write a non-controversial paper, strictly limiting our conclusions to the studied nodules, without p r e s u ming to extend these conclusions beyond this limit.
