✦ Synopsis
A method is developed for solving the basic rate equations, and hence the dielectric behaviour, of C&-type barrier systems. Both adjacentjurrq IA-J) and muU.ipk-jump (M-J) models are cousidered-it is s&own that for certaiu s&-fold barrier systems the active dielectric relaxation mode is characterized by a rekxation time z which is, to a good approximation, inversely proportional to the transition probability k 12 E kl = ko exp (-W/kT) where W is the principal barrier he&t. The proportiouality factor is either constant or is a Slowly varying function of tempcmture when compared with that for kl.
