Antihypertensive therapy influences kidney function by different mechanisms depending on the mode of action of the drug used. The GFR is improved by calcium entry blockers and ACE inhibitors, unaffected by vasodilators, alpha-blockers and centrally acting sympatholytics and impaired by beta-blockers
