β¦ Synopsis
Starting from a few experimentally observed reactions and the assumed existence of strong, electromagnetic and weak interactions, a correspondence between all fundamental particles and a certain Abelian group is set up, without referring to any details of the interaction. This formalism allows the derivation of the selection rules for the production of hyperons, K-mesons and ~-mesons. The weak interactions of K-mesons, pions, muons, and leptons are correctly described by the formalism, and the conservation of light fermions is derived from it. The relation between the rules for the production and those for the decay of the hyperons mad K-mesons is explained.
