The coefficient W* of the leading relativistic correction to Iongrange interatomic potent&Is fs shown to be simply related to the oscillator strength sum S(-3). Upper bounds and estimates for Wa are given for all pairs of the atoms H, He, Ne, Ar, Kr, and Xe.
