The anomalous 2iIl ,2j2113,2 intensity ratios obsesved recently in t& photoclcctron spectra of Sz , Se, and Te zre shown to arise from spin-orbit coupling in the ground stitz. An intermediate coupSing cakdation give goad agreement with all observed intensity ratios and predicts a ratio of 5=3S in Paz.
