โœฆ Synopsis

In deriving the efficiency of the stratified to the simple random sample design in survey research, the criticul link between the designs is the population analysis of variance. Analogously, the efficiency of the case-control to the cohort design in epidemiologic research can be derived using Bnyes' theorem as the essential connection between the designs. Prior information on the odds of the disease is also required. A numerical example using data from Fleiss' t e x t is used to illiistmte the result.

One can obtain population-based estimates of the penetrance of a measurable mutation from cohort studies, from population-based case-control studies, and from genotyped-proband designs (GPD). In a GPD, we assume that representative individuals (probands) agree to be genotyped, and one then obtains i

## Abstract Estimation and optimization of machine efficiency in the case of multi machine assignments is a difficult issue for some industries such as textile industry, due to the machine interference. Although the problem is not new, the solutions proposed are not full satisfactory. For example,

We used sib-pair linkage analysis as part of an epidemiologic approach to solving Problem 2 of the GAW10 data set of nuclear families. We recoded the quantitative trait Q1 into a dichotomous trait using Q1 $ 40 as the cut-point. In a case-control design of sib-pair analysis, the affected siblings of

Systematically arranged check plots are often used to reinforce the yield trials in complete blocks with the large number of treatments (K. G. BRIGGS at al., 1968BRIGGS at al., , 1969)). YATES (1936) discussed the use of control plots and suggested that
