✦ Synopsis
Whole crop dry-matter yield and dry-matter percentage of three varieties of maize, Julia, Inra 200 and Caldera 535, sown in 1973 at 110,000 plants/ha in 70-era rows were related to accumulated temperature, Ontario Heat Units and solar radiation. The polynomial regressions accounted for more than 91% of the variation in the dry-matter yield and dry-matter percentage.
The calculated production parameters of forage maize that would be expected at Shinfield, Great Britain, are given, when using the developed relationships and the tenyear mean for accumulated temperature.
The use of these relationships is discussed in terms of the selection of varieties, the prediction of crop yield and quality, and the monitoring of crop yields during a growing season.
