Stephen gives the fol]owlng equation ; k --w KIT in which Kreprew ~ ~] sents the conductivity of a water solution of the same temperature and percentage as an alcoholic solution with which it is compared; Hand ~], the internal fi'ictions of" the water and of the alcoholic fluid, for the same temperature ; w and w r, the percentages oi ~ water in the alcoholic solution and in a mixture ot "~ alcohol and water of minimum fluidity. :He gives the fbllowing conclusions: 1. The frictional coefficient of many mixtures of' water and alcohol~ as well as the galvanic conductivity of' diluted solutions of various salts, can be readily estimated. 2. The conductivity of diluted alcoholic solutions increases more slowly, when the amount of salt is increased, than that of water solutions. 3. The temperature coefficients of the conductivity of diluted solutions correspond very nearly to those of the fluidity of the solvent. 4. The conductivity of the alcohol-and-water solutions may be deduced from that of" the corresponding water solutions, by a factor which depends only upon the solvent, and is the same for different salts. 5. If the proportion Of alcohol is not greater than that of water the conductivity is very nearly proportional to the fluidity of the solvent.-
